Frequently Asked Questions...
Am I the only person that thinks Gibson guitars are overpriced?
I've heard the sound of an Epiphone Les Paul Custom and a Gibson Les Paul Custom side by side. There is a bit of difference in sound between Gibson and Epiphone but it ain't a $1500 dollar difference!
I want an Epiphone Zakk Wylde Bullseye Les Paul that's about $800. There's no way in HELL that I'm gonna shell out $4800 for the Gibson model. How can there possibly be a $4000 difference?!?
I looked up how much it costs to put together a Gibson Les Paul which is made in America. All in all it costs about $800 for everything put together, but why does Gibson have to put a price tag of 2 grand and up for a single guitar!?!?
BQ: I think that Gibson is overpriced. What about you?
Answer:
I don't totally disagree with your assessment, however if you keep the guitar 25 years, guess which guitar will be worth more than you probably paid for it?
The thing is..if you buy a top of the line Gibson, it's almost like getting the use of a quality guitar for free for 25 years, because when, and if you sell it, it's almost always worth more.
I bought a Gibson SJ, brand new back in '69 for $350 with the case, and this was Gibson's bottom of the line acoustic at the time. Today it's worth just over 2 grand.
The only Epiphone's which have retained their value over the years are because famous musicians used them at one time...like an original John Lennon Epiphone Casino.
